Mandarin Class 7/19 - 8/4
Upon popular request, JSSCC will be offering a Mandarin class for adults (including middle and high schoolers).
The summer class starts on July 19, meet twice a week, Tue & Thu, 2-hour session with 10 minutes break, till August 4. The class, taught by an experienced instructor and a native Mandarin speaker, focuses on conversational Mandarin for beginners, covering topics such as greetings, directions and other daily routine and basic needs. The class includes classroom exercises, games and materials for intermediate level as well.

Jinan Students join the Sacramento Youth Symphony's Summer Chamber Music Workshop
We are proud to sponsor eight Jinan music students, age 13-19, and their two teachers (see the attached picture) to visit Sacramento and attend the Sacramento Youth Symphony's 22nd annual summer chamber music workshop on July 18 - 24 and play concerts with SYS. Their scheduled visit is part of our ‘Youth Ambassador’ program. Under the same program, Sacramento students have the opportunity to visit Jinan every summer to learn the Chinese culture. This will be the second year that we sponsor Jinan students for this cultural exchange. We are greatly pleased with the success from last summer. Jinan students played concerts with our local students in churches, senior centers, universities and other venues throughout the Sacramento community. Many Sacramento residents have enjoyed their performances. What the Jinan students learned is beyond music; they gained first-hand knowledge of Sacramento, the American culture and the American people.

- 7/20 Noon, Westminster Church 13 &N St. Sacramento, Performances by select Student groups, Jinan students, Mentors and staff. All Week two Students will attend as audience members.* Concert is FREE.
- 7/21 7:30 p.m., University Retirement Community performance. Mentors and Coaches only.
- 7/22 3:00, Recitals at CSUS of all Week Two ensembles in two rooms (143 and 151). All students will perform.* Reception following.
- 7/22 7:30, Eskaton Performance, Carmichael. Performances by Jeunesse Orchestra and Jinan Students only.
- 7/23 5:30, CSUS. Jeunesse Orchestra and selected Chamber Groups Rehearsal.
- 7:30, CSUS Music Recital Hall Performance. Performances by Jeunesse Orchestra and selected Chamber Groups only. Reception is during intermission. $10 Adults, $5 Students and Seniors. (CSUS College of Music Capistrano Hall, 6000 J Street, Sacramento 95819)
- 7/24 5:30, Rehearsal for all Week Two students in concert. St. Anthony Church.
- 7:30, Benefit Concert, St. Anthony Church (660 Florin Rd. Sacramento 95831). All students perform. $10 Adults, $5 Students and Seniors.* Dessert Reception following concert.

2011 Youth Ambassador Trip 7/4 - 7/14
We continue our anual student trip to visit our sister city of Jinan, China!
Along with meeting peers in our host city of Jinan, we will visit other parts of China - things to look forward to for this trip:
- Beijing! and the Frobidden City, etc...
- Tai'an and climbing Mount Tai - formost of China's Five Sacred Mountains!
- Visit the birth place of Confucious
- and we get to experience the new high speed rail into Beijing ~ 180mph
We are looking forward to the trip - and will bring back many pictures and stories to share in future events and newsletters.
