- 9/17 Saturday: Join our team or watch them play at the 2011 Sacramento Chinese Ping Pong (Table Tennis) Team Tournament, organized by the China National Day Foundation (CNDF). The tournament will be held on Saturday September 17, 2011 in a spacious, well-lighted community gym, located at Rusch Park Community Center Gym, 7801 Auburn Blvd. (near Antelope Rd.), Citrus Heights, CA 95610. This year is the 40th anniversary of the table tennis diplomacy when the first American sport team (table tennis) was invited to visit China in 1971. It was an ice-breaking event in US-China history, ushering in the normalization of the diplomatic relationship between the U.S. and the People's Republic of China. For more information, please visit CNDF tournament website at http://chinanationalday.org/news.htm.

In 2002, the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace. With our support and coordination, Jinan students are scheduled to attend this event via video conference. Students from five local school districts will also join us as a part of their "Week of Peace" activities. The event will feature speakers, entertainment, food, dove release, our pledge for peace, the ringing of the peace bell, and international video conferences with Sacramento Sister Cities.

Sacramento Youth Ambassadors Visited Jinan.
Our long-time supporter and former president Margaret Wong and John Wong donated $1,000 to as the "Youth Ambassador" scholarship. Two bright high-school students Vicky Yoo and Savannah Grier each received $500. Read their reports and view pictures about their 'Youth Ambassador' trip to China last month. Our 9-member delegation included selected students and teachers from the Greater Sacramento Region. They stayed with host families in Jinan and also visited Beijing, Tai'an and Qu'fu. We've been organizing this subsidized trip for local middle school and high school students every summer since 2006.

Jinan Music Students Visited Sacramento.
We sponsored eight Jinan music students and their teacher Ms. Li from the Jinan Children's Palace to visit Sacramento on July 14-24, 2011. The group attended the Sacramento Youth Symphony (SYS) Summer Chamber Music Workshop on July 18 - 24 and played concerts with the SYS. This was the second year that we sponsored Jinan students for this cultural exchange after the great success last summer. Their visit is part of our 'Youth Ambassador' program, under which Sacramento students also have the opportunity to visit Jinan every summer to learn the Chinese culture.
The local students played concerts with Jinan students in churches, senior centers, universities and other venues throughout the Sacramento community. Many Sacramento residents have enjoyed their performances. What the Jinan students learned was beyond music; they gained first-hand knowledge of Sacramento, the American culture and the American people. See pictures here.
Donations:
We are grateful to receive $3,000 donation from our very own Dr. Judy Wong and her husband Dr. Thomas Deeble. The donation will be used for our 'Youth Ambassador' program.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Jim Sullivan, our new board member since Jan 2011. Thanks to Jim's in-kind donation, we now have an office in a prime location close to CSUS. Our office address is 6750 Folsom Blvd, Suite 240, Sacramento, CA 95819.
With deep sadness our board member Teresa Yeung informed us that her mother Kuck Cheung passed away on June 15, 2011, she was 93 years old. Mrs. Cheung was born in Hong Kong and came to the United States in 1981. She became a U.S. citizen 15 years ago. On behalf of our organization, Grace Liu sent a plant and extended our sympathy to Teresa and her family here and abroad. Teresa has graciously donated $100.00 in the name of her mother to JSSCC. We thank Teresa for this generous gift.
